Literary Lessons

My Literary Lessons page grew so large that I decided to divide it into several parts. Most of the PDF files are still stored on this page, but the program descriptions are on separate pages. If you find any problems with broken links, please let me know by emailing me at lauracandler@att.net.

Awesome Books on Reading Instruction!

I never knew how much I didn't know about reading instruction until I read these books. Everyone of them is a fantastic resource!

  • Reading With Meaning by Debbie Miller (Super book for primary teachers)
  • Independent Reading Inside the Box by Lisa Donahue (Great blackline masters!)
  • The Art of Teaching Reading by Lucy Calkins (Wow! Amazing!)
  • Strategies that Work by Stephanie Harvey (Another wow!)
  • Guiding Readers and Writers Grade 3 - 6 by Fountas and Pinnell (Very comprehensive)

Search for Audio Books on CD!

Audio Books can help struggling readers take part in Literature Circles and become fluent readers. To find audio books for your favorite titles, just type them into the search box on the right and select "Books" for the category.  If you don't find a CD, choose "Audio Books" as the category after you are in the Amazon Book Section.

Smartboard Literacy Files - Notebook 10 Format

The activities below are only available in Smartboard Notebook format. They were created with Version 10 of the Notebook software and may not work on other versions. Also, they only seem to work on PCs. I hope they work for you, but at this point in time, I'm not able to offer support for this activities. I apologize for not being able to help if they don't, but I'm still a Smartboard newbie myself!
